Chapter 67: Academy Heroine's Right Diagonal Back Seat

 Chapter 67

"Kr......Aaaagh!"

A scream filled with agony burst from Luke’s mouth as he felt a pain so intense it seemed to blink his vision out of existence.

As Luke’s body went limp, he saw a burst of red flames flare from Scarlet’s body, only to be swiftly sucked away somewhere.

Sator, observing this, touched Luke’s head with a gleeful smile and spoke.

“Luke, can you see it? Every time you scream, Number 10's flames grow stronger with rage. This method seems far better than directly inflicting pain. But it’s still not enough. You can produce flames strong enough to burn down the entire lab, can’t you? Show me at least that much.”

Luke looked at Scarlet.

The flames around her body were visibly growing more intense with each burst.

Just as Sator had said, the flames intensified with her anger.

If her emotions surged further, her powers might go berserk, just as they did when the lab burned down.

Luke recalled the day the lab burned, the look in Scarlet’s eyes as she was engulfed in flames.

The eyes that cried out for his help.

She seemed to be in agony from a power that was hard to control.

He couldn’t let her go through that pain again.

To reassure her and not alert Sator, Luke slowly mouthed the words.

It’s okay.

Scarlet’s eyes quivered, and she bit her lip hard, understanding his message.

I’m really okay, so don’t be so angry.

He wanted to tell her this, but Sator was already reaching for a rod that seemed to conduct electricity.

“-!! -!”

Despite the excruciating pain, Luke gritted his teeth, suppressing the screams trying to escape his lips.

Sator, seeing this, scratched his neck and shouted with dissatisfaction.

“If it hurts, don’t hold it in. Scream louder! Help Number 10 to give more power!”

Luke watched Sator shouting.

No matter how he looked, this wasn’t the man he once knew.

Although he was always full of a sense of superiority, he never thought he was someone who would do such things.

Given the current situation, both of them were bound to meet a terrible end. Luke, thinking of a way to prevent Sator from laying hands on Scarlet, spoke.

“......Sator, you said the family ordered to stop the plan last time, right? That means the family support is gone. You must have abducted us to continue the experiment on your own.”

There was no response, but Sator's twisted expression told him enough.

Luke continued, smirking slightly to provoke him.

“......If Scarlet dies, you fail.”

His words hit the mark, and Sator's expression contorted.

Luke was beaten for it, but he was now sure.

Sator was torturing him in front of Scarlet to incite her anger because he could no longer conduct harmful experiments on her body as before.

The lack of family support meant he couldn't create a new test subject.

If he harmed Scarlet and she died because Luke refused to treat her, it would be over for him.

Of course, Luke wouldn’t leave her to die, but Sator, not knowing this, could only target Luke instead.

In the end, this meant that as long as Luke endured, Scarlet would be safe.

Luke glanced at Scarlet.

She was biting her lip so hard that it was bleeding.

The sight of her trying to hold back her rising anger was clear.

Even during the times she endured far worse pain, she never showed such a drastic change in expression.

She was a kind girl who could get so angry over someone else’s pain.

The pain she must have gone through in the past due to them must have been far worse than this.

So, for that kind girl, he could endure this pain.

It was the least he could do for his atonement.

Luke steeled himself with this thought.

Mouthing to Scarlet that he was okay, Luke continued to endure the torture.

*

Perhaps due to the experience accumulated from the previous experiments, or maybe because Sator was careful to apply only enough force not to cause fatal damage, Luke managed to endure the torture desperately.

The intensity of the flames didn’t seem to increase noticeably compared to the beginning.

This displeased Sator.

“Luke, because you keep holding back, there are no results. Looks like I’ll have to bring out something I’ve been saving.”

Muttering, Sator scratched his neck and pulled out a vial from somewhere.

He drew a small amount with a syringe and waved it in front of the struggling, tied-up Luke.

Seeing the ominous black substance swirling inside, Luke gasped.

That was something far too dangerous to be here.

“I went through a lot to get this, thinking it might help draw out the witch’s power. As a doctor, you know what this is, right? Because you didn’t fulfill your role, I have to go this far.”

Luke shivered, having seen several people die because of that substance.

Dark Magic.

A dangerous energy that could birth a monster, but in such a visible concentration, it was a deadly poison to humans.

Even the small amount in the syringe was enough to kill a person.

Despite knowing the danger, Sator aimed the syringe at Scarlet’s neck.

“What do you plan to do with that......”

“I thought of using it on you first, but the witch’s power and dark magic seem like they’d go well together, don’t they? My researcher’s intuition tells me this will succeed. Maybe I should have tried this first. Then you could have witnessed the completion of the plan with your own body intact.”

“If Scarlet dies, the plan is over! Sator, you’ll be a failure forever!”

Desperation made Luke shout, knowing that perfectionist Sator couldn’t ignore it.

But looking at Sator, with his neck bleeding and his eyes gleaming with a crazed light, Luke despaired.

He wore the white gloves, stained red with blood, due to his obsessive-compulsive disorder, but now there was no sign of reason in his eyes.

Only a madman remained.

“Hahaha, Luke. You’re saying foolish things.”

Sator laughed maniacally, donning a gas mask.

“I, I, can never fail! Take a little nap. When you wake up, you’ll see the completed result!”

As the sleeping gas spread, Luke’s consciousness began to fade.

Through his hazy vision, he saw Sator approaching Scarlet with the syringe.

Someone, please stop him.

At that moment,

“Take your hands off my friend right now!”

Beyond his blurring vision, starlight sparkled.

*

Following Yoon Si-woo’s guidance, they arrived at a secluded building after crossing several gates without rest.

“No one’s here!”

“It's underground!”

As soon as Yoon Si-woo entered the seemingly empty building, he pointed downward.

Following his words, Sylvia immediately prepared a spell and aimed it at the floor.

-Alf Ad Astra-!!

A large hole was blasted into the floor, and the smoke below surged upward due to the impact.

Realizing it wasn’t ordinary smoke, Yoon Si-woo switched to the Holy Sword of Protection and created a barrier to block it, then jumped down with Sylvia.

Using a spell to clear the dusty and smoky air in the basement, Sylvia revealed the scene.

A middle-aged man tied to a chair, apparently tortured.

Scarlet hanging limply in a cage, and a masked man aiming a syringe at her neck.

Sylvia shouted at the masked man, unsure of what was in the syringe but fearing it was dangerous.

“Take your hands off my friend right now!”

At her shout, the masked man froze.

“Well, if it isn’t Miss Sylvia. This is quite troublesome.”

Hearing a familiar voice call her name, Sylvia scrutinized the man’s appearance in confusion.

Silver hair peeking out from under the gas mask, gloves on his hands, and a voice that, despite being muffled, seemed familiar.

Though it seemed unbelievable, everything pointed to someone she knew, and Sylvia asked in a trembling voice.

“...Uncle Sator?”

“Yes, it’s me, Miss.”

The man removed his gas mask, revealing a familiar face, leaving Sylvia speechless.

“Do you know him?”

Suppressing his urge to rush forward, Yoon Si-woo asked, and Sylvia nodded with difficulty.

Shocked to find out that the person who kidnapped her friend was a family member, she bit her lip and asked.

“......Why did you kidnap my friend?”

Sator smiled and replied.

“Your friend? Oh, you mean this?”

Pointing to her dearest friend.

“You probably didn’t know. This isn’t something fit to be your friend.”

His answer was,

“This bitch is a weapon made by Astra, crafted from the heart of the Witch of Wrath, an enemy of Astra.”

An overwhelming shock that made the previous sensation seem trivial, enough to leave Sylvia utterly stunned.

Regardless of how the body came to be, it's clear that MC's a person.
Someone that saved people disregarding self safety.
Then there's stalker guy, which IS an idiot, but i hope he acts correctly...
