Chapter 66: Academy Heroine's Right Diagonal Back Seat
Chapter 66
"From now on, your name is not Number 10, but Scarlet Evande."
The man said.
After my name changed, my life also changed significantly.
In Scarlet Evande's life outside, there was no pain I had to endure daily.
It was unimaginable until now.
However, I couldn't simply be happy because there were things more difficult than the pain.
[Don't you resent the suffering you've endured?]
[Aren't you angry? Don't you want to burn it all down?]
[Everyone who hurt you, the people, the world, everything.]
Since the day I desperately resisted the voices and extinguished the fire that emerged from my body, I occasionally heard those voices again, and intense emotions surged uncontrollably.
If I let go and succumbed to those emotions, I somehow knew that I would burn everything around me again, just like last time.
And this time, I was sure it wouldn't end until my entire body was burned.
So, I desperately resisted the voices and suppressed the flames.
Though I ended up exhausted, lying still for most of my waking hours.
It wasn't something I could do just because I didn't want to experience the pain of burning alive again.
I could only do it because I wanted to fulfill the man's request.
He always helped me when I was in pain, gave me a name, and was the only one who treated me warmly in that cold room.
So, just as I once promised, I wanted to become someone who could protect others.
The man said that if I entered the academy, I could become a hero.
A hero is someone who protects people.
So, I wanted to become a hero.
I thought that if I became a hero, I would see the man happy.
That's why I endured, no matter how hard it was.
Whenever I felt like following the voices and burning everything down, I held on, thinking it would make the man sad. I held on, and on, and on.
Finally, on the morning of the day I was to enter the academy.
I realized it.
That my mind could no longer withstand the voices constantly whispering to burn everything.
I wanted to become a hero.
I wanted to see the man happy.
But no matter how desperately I tried to stay conscious, my vision seemed to blur bit by bit.
If I could no longer suppress the flames, they would probably burn everything around me.
Fortunately, when the man told me to choose a place I liked, just in case something like this happened, I chose a place where no one lived.
If I lost consciousness and couldn't move, at least no one else would get hurt.
One person burning was enough.
In a quiet room in a building where no one lived.
Lying in bed, I closed my eyes, thinking that I wanted to see the man happy.
*
On the first day of school, I recalled the reason why Yoon Si-woo was late in the original story.
Talking with Sylvia, Yoon Si-woo said he was late because he helped put out a fire he saw on his way to school.
Until now, I just thought it was something like that, but when I followed Yoon Si-woo and was also late, I didn't see the fire.
Then, where was the place that caught fire in the original story?
It was probably the reason there were only 29 students in Class A and why Scarlet Evande did not appear.
Maybe Scarlet Evande was originally destined to burn to death on the first day.
*
I felt an unpleasant dizziness and a suffocating sensation as if I were tied to something.
When I tried to get up but couldn't move, I opened my eyes and saw the guardian man collapsed in a chair, unconscious.
In the bewildering sight, I tried to move my body to help, but I only heard the clinking of chains and couldn't move.
Looking closely, my situation was more serious.
Not only were my hands and feet bound by chains, hanging in the air, but I was also trapped in a cell-like cage.
I was sure I fell asleep in the bed in my room, so what on earth was happening?
It seemed like both the man and I had been kidnapped by someone.
I tried to melt the chains binding my hands and feet with fire, but the flames from my body were sucked away through the chains.
At that moment, I heard a voice.
"No matter what you do, it won't work, Number 10. Those are special restraints made from absorption stone, just like the one on your artificial hand."
Looking toward the voice, I saw a silver-haired elf, Sator, smiling unpleasantly at the man and me.
Though I had only seen him a few times, I had seen this man many times in my dreams, calling me Number 10.
Was it a deeply ingrained memory, enough to be a trauma?
My body trembled slightly, and flames burst out from the natural fear and anger greater than that.
I had a rough guess for some time.
I wondered if the dreams I had recently were past memories of Scarlet Evande.
The few fragments I remembered were already quite severe, which disturbed me, but since they were past events, there was nothing I could change now. I thought it would be best to focus on future events.
Still, how could I have anticipated being kidnapped by a madman while asleep?
I was afraid of what might happen, but more than that, I was angry, glaring at Sator, who seemed to have kidnapped both the man and me.
He frowned, then suddenly smiled.
"Since you've rebelled, you need to be punished."
Seeing that he might do something more painful, I tightly closed my eyes, but contrary to my expectations, the rod did not point at me.
"Aaagh!"
The man's scream echoed.
Opening my eyes wide, I saw Sator grabbing the man's hair, who seemed to have woken up from the sudden pain.
The man, confused about what was happening, opened his mouth.
"Sator... What the hell is going on?"
"You said you wanted to see Number 10, so I personally prepared the best seat for you. To explain, I couldn't give up my plan, so I had to forcibly bring you. Failure is not an option in my dictionary."
Sator laughed as he spoke, and the man shouted threateningly.
"You started this plan to save people. What the hell is this? Do you even know how serious a crime it is to commit a crime against a hero?"
Sator laughed, scratching his neck.
"If you hadn't run away with that thing, I wouldn't have had to do this. And a hero? Do you mean that thing? The one made with a piece of the witch's heart, the enemy of humanity?"
From those words, I could roughly understand the identity of this body.
Though my curiosity was satisfied, it only made me feel worse.
Damn, of all things...
Sator continued speaking, scratching his neck.
"Just so you know, the witch weaponization plan wasn't for saving people. It was originally planned to use the witch's power to clear the beasts in the north and reclaim the great land of Astra. What I said back then was just to get your help. I deceived you, but you deceived me too, so it shouldn't matter, right?"
That revelation seemed quite shocking, as the man's face hardened.
Sator laughed at the man's reaction as if it were amusing.
Blood flowed from the neck he was scratching, staining his gloves red.
He didn't seem to be in his right mind.
A situation where someone like that was holding our lives.
The man spoke with a stiff face.
"What are you planning to do?"
Sator smiled.
"What do you think? I'm going to continue the experiment to see what I can do with this failure. Don't worry. Astra never forgets a favor. Although you deceived me, you did help me, right?"
Sator brought the rod to the man's body.
"I'm giving you the chance to make a noble sacrifice to draw out its anger. So, endure it as best as you can."
A scream echoed.
this is fucked my god
ReplyDeletethis is the only situation I want Si-woo to appear
ReplyDeleteStockholm syndromed what the hell
ReplyDeleteThx for the chapter
ReplyDeleteThat guy was deranged from the start, just as i expected.
ReplyDeleteCan't say i'm that surprised that the objective of the experiment wasn't people's safety, considering how that family was shown to be.
I'm wondering if the two kids are going to get there in time or not before Luke gets to a point of no return or MC burns the crazy bastard to a crisp.
Also, as i expected, the original person wasn't devoid of emotions, she was just a kid that only knew suffering.
DeleteThat makes all this so tragic and sad.
The original Scarlett went out sad man, all alone burning quietly because she didn't want to hurt anyone after a life time of suffering.
ReplyDeleteThe crazed elf needs to go.
Ah so thats make sense why in the story MC never heard scarlet evande, she never life in the first place because she burn herself.... And that make sense why she never get hungry only her mind make her hungry...maybe
