Chapter 193: Academy Heroine's Right Diagonal Back Seat

Chapter 193

Have you ever felt like you just didn’t want to get up?

On those rare days when your bed feels unusually cozy, and you’re afraid that the feeling will disappear the moment you open your eyes, even after waking up, you just want to fall back asleep.

For the first time in a long while, I felt that way when I woke up, and I closed my eyes again, following the desire to enjoy this feeling just a bit longer.

But then something brushed against my cheek, and the consciousness that had been drifting back into sleep was forced awake.

There’s a thing called timing when it comes to sleep.

If you’re disturbed just as you’re about to fall back asleep, that opportunity rarely comes again easily.

In simple terms, my attempt to fall back asleep was completely thwarted by that ticklish sensation just now.

Regretting the fading drowsiness, I brushed my cheek.

Feeling the sensation against my fingers, I realized it was hair that had disturbed my sleep.

I frowned slightly at the thought.

This is the problem with long hair.

Since it’s so long, it gets all tangled while I sleep.

Sometimes I wake up and find that the hair that had gotten into my mouth during the night is now drenched in saliva, and I feel an urge to just cut it all off.

I’ve even actually tried cutting it off once, but unfortunately, it was pointless.

This body seems to recognize hair as part of itself, so as soon as I cut it short, it grew back to its original length in no time.

It’s as if I’m doomed to live with long hair, damn this world.

Anyway, today the hair against my fingers felt unusually soft.

I’d never used conditioner because I always thought it was unnecessary, considering I already had expensive shampoo. Maybe I’d get this kind of texture if I used conditioner too.

It’s not that my hair was in bad condition, but was it ever this soft? With that thought, I opened my eyes.

And there I saw Sylvia’s face.

Right in front of me.

“Huup...?!”

I barely managed to stifle the scream that almost escaped my lips and quickly shut my eyes again.

My heart nearly stopped.

Sylvia’s sleeping face, so close to mine, had that much of an impact.

...What the hell is this? Why is Sylvia sleeping next to me?

My brain struggled to catch up to the situation—waking up to find a silver-haired beauty beside me was something straight out of the beginning of an isekai story.

But then, feeling Sylvia’s hand on my head, I finally recalled what had happened yesterday.

Oh right, because of the calming spell, I ended up sleeping next to Sylvia...

Thinking about it now, it was a wonder that I managed to fall asleep with Sylvia in the same bed.

Normally, I’d have been so nervous I would’ve stayed up all night, but it seemed I had been so overwhelmed by everything that happened yesterday.

Calming my wildly beating heart, I mentally prepared myself and carefully opened my eyes again.

Even though I’d steeled myself, a quiet “wow” slipped out of my mouth.

Sylvia’s appearance, illuminated by the morning sunlight streaming through the curtains, was breathtakingly beautiful, like a scene from a painting.

It was not just simple beauty but a sight that exuded a sense of sanctity and dignity, making me hold my breath without realizing it.

It felt almost sacrilegious to touch such a masterpiece.

That thought crossed my mind, but before I knew it, my hand was already gently running through the hair that had been tickling my cheek.

The soft, silky strands of silver slipped through my fingers.

The addictive texture made me want to feel it just a little more, and I kept stroking her hair.

I stared blankly at Sylvia’s face as I enjoyed the sensation of her hair against my hand.

The silver hair that glistened in the morning light.

The clear skin that seemed almost translucent.

Her lips, nestled in her pale face, resembled peonies blooming unexpectedly in the snow.

I wondered if this is what a princess in a fairy tale would look like.

“...Beautiful.”

I could think of many words, but none seemed sufficient to describe her beauty, so the only thought that slipped out was that she was simply beautiful.

Sylvia shifted slightly, as if she had heard my whisper in her sleep.

But she didn’t seem to be waking up just yet, and I suddenly thought about whether, like Snow White or Sleeping Beauty, a kiss would wake her.

The thought made me smile a little.

Come to think of it, those princes in fairy tales were quite impudent, kissing women they’d never met without permission.

I wasn’t that kind of inconsiderate person, so I guess I wasn’t fit to be a prince.

Besides, my princess was probably exhausted from casting the calming spell on me until late last night, so I wanted her to rest a little longer.

Stopping the hand that was stroking her hair, I carefully got up, making sure not to wake her.

She’d done so much for me yesterday.

I should repay her by making breakfast.

With that thought in mind, I was about to leave the room when I leaned down and whispered playfully into her ear.

“Thank you for yesterday. You must be tired, so please sleep a little longer, my princess.”

* * *

“...Did you make all of this, Scarlet?”

“...You got up early to prepare all this? You didn’t have to go all out, especially after such a hard day yesterday.”

After waking up a little early and preparing breakfast, I called Yoon Si-woo and Sylvia from their room, and their reaction was rather odd.

"Well, um... I just thought I'd repay you both for all the trouble yesterday, so I wanted to make something in return... But did I overdo it? Sorry. You don’t have to eat it all, just take as much as you want.”

They seemed surprised by the breakfast that filled the entire table.

...I guess it does seem a bit much for breakfast, even by my standards.

It was my first time preparing a meal for three people, and I might have gone overboard trying to express my gratitude with all my heart.

Feeling a bit down about the mistake—especially since wasting food deserves punishment, and I, of all people, had made such an error—I muttered regretfully, but Sylvia quickly shook her head and exclaimed.

“No, no! It’s fine, really! I’m actually really hungry! And it seems like Yoon Si-woo was hungry too, right? You were hungry, weren’t you? So we can definitely eat it all, right?”

“Huh...? O-oh, yeah! I was really hungry, so this is perfect! We can totally eat all of this! There’s no way we’d leave anything Scarlet made for us. We’ll finish it all, no matter what!”

It looked like there was some sort of determined look exchanged between the two just now. What was that all about?

Anyway, I was relieved to hear that they were both hungry, so we started eating. But then Sylvia took a bite, her eyes widened, and she exclaimed.

“Wow, this is delicious! I suspected you were good at cooking since you made those macarons by yourself, but I didn’t know you were this skilled.”

“Haha... I’ve been practicing. Cooking for yourself is often cheaper, so I’ve gotten pretty good at it.”

Sometimes, cooking your own meals is cheaper than buying food, so I’ve become somewhat confident in my cooking skills.

Besides, here I’ve occasionally visited Senior Leonor’s house with Mei to learn more about cooking whenever I had the time.

Still, I felt shy about the compliment, so I awkwardly laughed, and Sylvia, smiling mischievously, glanced at Yoon Si-woo and muttered.

“Hmmm, someone’s really lucky, huh? Living with Scarlet, who’s such a great cook.”

“Ehem...”

Yoon Si-woo coughed awkwardly, and Sylvia giggled, looking at me as she spoke.

“Well, we never know who you’ll end up living with in the future, right? Scarlet, if you ever get tired of this place, just let me know. I can get you a whole new house.”

“That sounds more like something you’d actually do, Sylvia, which is a bit scary...”

It sounded like a joke, but with Sylvia, it could really happen, so I laughed uneasily.

Sylvia seemed unusually cheerful today.

Her voice was a bit higher than usual, and I wondered if something good had happened to her.

As I was pondering this, Sylvia turned to me and said.

“Ah, Scarlet. There’s somewhere I want to go with you this morning. Could you spare a little time? It won’t take long.”

I had some work to do today, but I figured a short outing in the morning wouldn’t be a problem, so I nodded.

Sylvia, satisfied, nodded back and said.

“Then, could you get ready to leave after finishing your meal? Yoon Si-woo and I... It might take us a while to finish our meal, and we also have some things to discuss.”

“Sure. I’ve pretty much finished eating, so I’ll go get cleaned up. Enjoy your meal.”

As I stood up and left, Sylvia and Yoon Si-woo simultaneously glanced at the still-heavily-loaded table with a look of resignation.

There was still a lot left, but since they said they’d finish it, I figured I could take my time getting ready.

* * *

So after leisurely washing up and getting ready, I came out to find that they had finished their meal; the table was filled with empty dishes.

The problem was, Sylvia, who had seemed so cheerful earlier, now looked utterly miserable.

...Even though they said it was fine, it seems the amount of food was just too much for them to handle.
