Chapter 129: Academy Heroine's Right Diagonal Back Seat

Chapter 129

"Hey, if today’s your day off, could we talk more at your place?"

"Huh?! Oh, yeah! Sure!"

"Send me your address, and I'll head over. I should be there in about 30 minutes. See you then."

With that, the call abruptly ended.

It wasn’t until a moment later that Yoon Si-woo, who had been standing there in a daze, fully realized the situation.

Wait, Scarlet's coming to my house? In 30 minutes?

"Whoa?! Only 30 minutes?! Do I clean up first? No, I just woke up and haven’t showered yet—should I shower first? Ugh, this is driving me crazy… What if the house smells weird or something?"

With only 30 minutes left until Scarlet’s arrival, Yoon Si-woo was more flustered than he had ever been in his life.

The last time he’d been this flustered was probably when he and Scarlet ended up at that slightly questionable lodging.

But that was then, and this was now.

It wasn’t just anyone coming over—it was the girl he had feelings for, visiting his house.

He was so overwhelmed by the unexpected situation that he didn’t know what to do first. After a brief moment of panic, he decided to start with cleaning.

He opened the windows to air out the place, cleaned up the mess, and tidied the house.

Fortunately, since he wasn’t someone who usually left his place in disarray, he managed to get everything done in time.

In moments like this, he was truly grateful that Lucy was always with him.

Lucy had told him it was natural for a healthy man, but still, he couldn’t help but be conscious of it. Because of that, there was no lingering odor typical of a young man’s room in his house.

Just to be sure, though, he placed unused diffusers around the house.

He couldn’t bear the thought of Scarlet arriving and wrinkling her nose at some unpleasant smell…

As Yoon Si-woo devoted himself to cleaning his house more thoroughly than ever before, Lucy muttered in a tone dripping with exasperation.

[Si-woo, seeing you fuss over such things makes me embarrassed. That this man is my master and family is truly a lamentable affair…]

Lucy’s words made Yoon Si-woo pause, feeling a moment of shame, but he quickly resumed his frantic cleaning, knowing he had no time to waste.

After what felt like a battle, 30 minutes passed, and when the doorbell rang, Yoon Si-woo greeted Scarlet with what he hoped was the most natural smile he could muster.

"Oh, you’re here? Come on in."

"Yeah, excuse me."

Focused on keeping his smile natural, he ended up biting his tongue mid-greeting.

Embarrassment flushed his face red, but fortunately, Scarlet didn’t seem to notice, as she calmly took off her shoes and stepped inside.

Scarlet is… Scarlet is in my house…

His heart pounded uncontrollably, and as he struggled to calm himself, he heard Scarlet murmur to herself as she glanced around the house.

"…It’s cleaner than I expected. I thought you might be the type to leave things a bit messy."

…Thank goodness I cleaned.

His effort to avoid giving her the impression of being a sloppy guy had paid off.

As Yoon Si-woo breathed a quiet sigh of relief, his eyes fell on the large bag Scarlet had brought with her.

Come to think of it, she hadn’t come to his house just to see him.

After guiding Scarlet to the dining table and sitting across from her, Yoon Si-woo swallowed nervously before asking her.

"So, um… about what you said earlier, about living together… what exactly did you mean?"

When she had asked over the phone if she could live at his place, his heart had nearly stopped.

A request to live together? He had heard about couples living together before marriage.

If that’s what this was, then wasn’t it essentially her confessing that she wanted to be his girlfriend?

But Yoon Si-woo thought so.

Of course, he also wished their relationship could develop into something more, but there were steps to these things.

It might be a bit conservative, but he hadn’t even confessed his feelings yet, so the idea of suddenly living together felt too sudden.

But Scarlet was a bit different from most people, so he decided to ask her directly to clarify her intentions.

If that’s what she really meant, then he would formally confess his feelings to her.

As he anxiously awaited her response, Scarlet answered.

"What do you mean, what did I mean? I meant exactly what I said."

"So… that means…"

"Yeah, I want to live at your place as a roommate."

Yoon Si-woo, who had been imagining a hundred different scenarios in his head about how to confess his feelings, paused for a moment, then responded in a dumbfounded voice.

"…Huh? Roommate?"

"Yeah, a roommate. Don’t you know? Students often live together to split the rent because it’s hard to afford on their own. The rent around here is pretty steep, so living with you would help ease the burden. Plus, it fits the conditions I was looking for."

Seeing her speak so casually, Yoon Si-woo realized that Scarlet had simply been looking for a place to live, and he’d gotten his hopes up for nothing.

His face flushed with embarrassment, but still, it wasn’t entirely his fault for misunderstanding.

After all, what kind of girl would choose a guy as her roommate?

Unless she was completely clueless about how things work in the world…

At that moment, Yoon Si-woo realized something crucial: this girl was none other than Scarlet Evande.

The same girl who, without hesitation, had chosen a motel as a place for them to talk privately.

A girl who, given her past, probably didn’t have the same views on things like sexual propriety as most people. In fact, it was probably natural for her to be a bit different in this regard.

Feeling both unjustly treated and utterly deflated, Yoon Si-woo hung his head. Meanwhile, Scarlet continued to chatter on nonchalantly about why she had chosen his place.

"You’re often away from home for work, right? Wouldn’t it be nice to have someone to look after the place while you’re gone? It’s a bit big for just one person to live in, anyway. Giving me one room wouldn’t be too much of a burden for you."

"…Yeah, that’s true."

"…Um, do you not like the idea of living together with me?"

"…No, it’s not that."

Responding absentmindedly due to a strange sense of self-pity, Scarlet seemed to take it as a sign that he wasn’t happy with the idea and began to look worried.

But how could that be the case?

He would have welcomed the chance to live with her. Yet, despite that, there was something… something that just didn’t sit right.

Seeing Yoon Si-woo’s hesitant reaction, Scarlet began to panic, waving her hands as if trying to fix a dire mistake.

"W-Wait! Since I’d be hogging this nice house most of the time, I’ll cover a bit more of the rent! And I’ll handle the cleaning and laundry, and when you’re home, I’ll even cook for you!"

"No, you don’t need to go that far…"

"No, really! Don’t worry about it! I actually want to do it! I mean, I’m already asking you for such a big favor, so I want to repay you even just a little…! And if there’s anything else I can do for you… just ask… okay?"

"…Don’t feel pressured by that. How about we go look at some other places where you can live alone? I can help you find one…"

Momentarily tempted by her offer to do anything for him, Yoon Si-woo quickly regained his composure, shook his head, and tried to gently refuse Scarlet, who was almost begging him.

At this rate, living with him might end up being more of a burden for her. If he was truly thinking of her well-being, it seemed better to let her stay elsewhere.

However, at his words, Scarlet’s expression crumbled. She bowed her head, her body trembling slightly. Then, with shaking hands, she lightly gripped the hem of his sleeve and whispered in a small, wavering voice.

"…I don’t want to go anywhere else. I want to stay here."

"…Why are you so determined to stay at my place?"

At his question, Scarlet raised her head slowly and looked up at him with a vulnerable expression.

"…Because I feel safest when I’m with you."

"Ugh…?!"

His heart pounded so hard that he involuntarily let out a strange sound.

Her words, backed by the soft chime of the Holy Sword confirming the truth, struck him deeply.

The image of this seemingly strong girl now appearing so fragile and pleading was something Yoon Si-woo simply couldn’t refuse.

So, he nodded.

"Thank goodness…"

Scarlet’s face lit up with a bright, relieved smile, and Yoon Si-woo found himself silently praying that his heart would somehow survive this.
