Chapter 33: Academy Heroine's Right Diagonal Back Seat

Chapter 33

After bowing to Eve, I left the faculty office.

Originally, I had planned to become a debtor, but fortunately, things turned out well.

I came to repay the cost of the school uniform, only to incur another debt.

Maybe there could have been a better way, but unfortunately, [Academy's Holy Sword] was a novel that revolved around Yoon Si-woo.

When the incident happened at the gym, Yoon Si-woo wasn't at school.

Therefore, all I knew was a few lines of narration.

But the content within those few lines wasn't something I could easily overlook.

I was a coward, lacking the courage to step into situations I didn't know.

I was struggling not to stay at school that day.

It was an incident I originally intended to ignore because I didn't know how the future would change.

However, I had debts to repay to both the class president and Eve.

All I could do was prepare countermeasures for those who were not at the center of the story.

There was less than a week left until the first incident occurred.

I prayed that the construction would be finished on time, as I had asked for the door to be installed as quickly as possible.

*

"Can I sit next to you?"

As always, during lunch, I was about to have my meal in a corner when Sylvia cautiously approached me and asked.

I hesitated, wondering if it was okay for her to sit next to me instead of Yoon Si-woo, but the thought quickly vanished when I saw Sylvia, blushing and fidgeting.

Nodding as if under a spell, Sylvia sat down next to me with an embarrassed smile.

With Sylvia next to me, it felt as if the quality of the space had elevated by two levels.

The student cafeteria felt more radiant than a Michelin 3-star restaurant.

Not that I've been to one, but they don't have Sylvia!

The food even tasted better, so I diligently moved my utensils to finish the meal piled on my plate, while Sylvia watched me curiously and commented.

"Scarlet, you're quite the big eater. You look so delicate on the outside, but I suppose if you have high physical abilities, you need to consume a lot of calories?"

I tilted my head at her question.

It wasn't that my body needed it, I just ate a lot because it was delicious.

The cafeteria food was so good that eating relieved my stress.

If the chefs here cooked it, even the infamous mackerel stew would be delicious.

If army meals were like this, no one would skip meals and get scolded.

Well, just as she found me curious, I found her curious too.

Sylvia was eating a normal diet like everyone else.

I had assumed elves would be vegetarians.

Feeling a bit disappointed, I responded to Sylvia.

"Well... I always thought elves were vegetarians. You look like a fairy..."

"Scarlet... nowadays even children don't believe such things... If I've shattered your illusion, I'm sorry..."

Sylvia apologized, looking at me as if she had just told a sixth grader that Santa Claus was actually their dad.

Gyaah, don't look at me like that!

It made me incredibly embarrassed!

As I blushed with embarrassment, Sylvia covered her mouth with her hand and chuckled.

Even her laughter was elegant.

While I was dazed by her smile, Sylvia spoke.

"Having a meal while chatting with a friend feels like this."

Sylvia had a gentle smile on her lips as she said that.

"Actually, you're my first real friend, Scarlet. So it's my first time eating and talking so comfortably with someone, it's quite amazing."

Her voice carried a touch of sentiment.

Thinking that I was Sylvia's first made my mind heat up.

Feeling like I needed to say something, I blurted out the first thing that came to mind.

"Me too... you're my first friend, Sylvia..."

Sylvia was my first friend in this world, so it wasn't a lie!

Somehow, I ended up confessing our firsts to each other with a beautiful girl.

My heart pounded.

Surprised by my answer, Sylvia smiled brightly and responded.

"Then... we're each other's first?"

She then blushed and quietly mumbled, "I'm glad..."

I felt like I was going insane.

Anyone who could maintain their composure after seeing that wasn't human but a stone statue.

Barely suppressing my emotions in the sweet atmosphere, I finished my meal, handed Sylvia the macarons I made in the morning, and swiftly ran out of the cafeteria.

As I left the cafeteria, I sensed Yoon Si-woo's gaze from afar and glanced back.

He looked utterly confused for some reason.

*

Thanks to the conversation I had with Sylvia during lunch, I spent the rest of the day trying to calm my racing heart, and before I knew it, school was over.

After the homeroom ended, I told Eve, who was leaving the classroom, about my request. She patted my back, telling me to trust her, and then disappeared.

I trudged home and opened the door.

“Hey, you're here?”

I saw an unfamiliar man and closed the door.

Did I open the wrong door?

I quickly checked the number on the door.

203. This was definitely my house.

So who was that man sitting on my bed?

Cautiously, I opened the door again. The same middle-aged man with messy hair was sitting on my bed, looking at me.

“I told you last time I couldn’t visit often... But reacting so coldly would hurt me...”

The man said timidly, looking hurt.

Who are you?

“Your place feels more like a home now. I saw the fridge is stocked with various things. Are you cooking now? I hope you can cook for me sometime too.”

The man spoke with a proud look on his face.

No, seriously, who are you?

“You used to just lie around like you were dead. Seems like getting you into the Academy was the right decision. I’m glad my efforts paid off.”

The man kept rambling on enthusiastically.

Watching him with wary eyes, I cautiously spoke.

“Um... who are you?”

“Was that a joke? Haha, you really seem like a girl your age now...”

The man burst out laughing and looked at me with a tender gaze.

Not understanding what he was talking about, I quietly glared at him.

After a moment of silence, the man seemed to sense something was off.

He chuckled awkwardly while staring at me, then his expression changed.

With a trembling voice, he asked,

“Scarlet, are you serious?”

I nodded.

The man’s face turned grave, and he started muttering under his breath.

I could barely make out words like "side effects," but his voice was too low to catch the rest.

After a heavy sigh, he muttered to himself, “Maybe this is for the best...” then spoke to me.

“If you don’t remember, just know that I’m your legal guardian. I can’t visit often due to circumstances, so we won’t see each other much. Since you seem to be doing well, I’ll be going.”

The term "legal guardian" made my head spin.

He wasn’t in the original story, so I assumed he was a new addition...

The idea that this body had a past I was unaware of wasn’t comforting.

I didn’t know.

Right now, I was too overwhelmed just dealing with the future.

Blinking in confusion, the man, who was about to leave, hesitated when he saw me, scratching the back of his head before carefully asking.

“How’s the Academy... is it bearable?”

His question made various thoughts run through my mind.

If he was asking whether I was managing, honestly, it was tough.

But I had made friends with Sylvia, and Eve was getting the gym door installed...

I slowly nodded.

The man gave a small smile.

“That's good to hear.”

Since he claimed to be my guardian, I decided to see him off.

Just as he was about to leave, he paused, turned back, and pulled an envelope from his coat, handing it to me.

“It’s not much, but use it as pocket money. I’ll be going now.”

The man raised his hand in a casual salute and closed the door behind him.

I am human, after all, and don’t remember every detail of the novel.

I quietly tried to recall.

In [Academy’s Holy Sword], there were 29 students in Yoon Si-woo’s class.

But now, there were 30 students in Class 1-A.

I wondered if Scarlet Evande was an added character because I came here, or if some event in the original was altered by my presence in this body...

Feeling overwhelmed, I stopped thinking and opened the envelope the man left.

There were ten 10,000-gold bills inside.

...That man didn’t seem like a bad person.

  1. More mysterious people from Scarlet’s past are appearing ! Also Mc’s mentality is improving in real time when she’s near Sylvia, so cute !

    Thanks for the chapter !

  2. MC is a bit...like a puppy regarding Sylvia.
At least the mental health aspect seems better now.
Seems like the original owner of the body was experimented on.
That would explain the fact that nobody that knew the original person interacted with MC for a while, especially considering the attitude of both the girl and this man.
Since MC has no idea about the situation of the academy for which the door is needed, i'm wondering...
Maybe it was the original Evande going berserk or someone's arrangement tjat was involved?
The timing is too particular to think otherwise.

  3. Scarlet's identity is probably something closer to a monster in the original I guess
