Chapter 24: Academy Heroine's Right Diagonal Back Seat
Chapter 24
[Ddingdingding~ Good morning~ Ddingdingding~]
[Ddingdingding~ Good morning~ Ddingdingding~ Ba-ba-ba Ba-ba Ba-ba-ba-ba Good morning~]
The alarm rang.
So noisy.
I reached out beside the pillow.
My hands trembled, causing my fingers to barely brush against the phone, failing to turn off the alarm.
[Ba-ba-ba Ba-ba Ba-ba-ba-ba Good morning~]
So noisy.
I felt around the side of the bed, trying to locate my phone.
Due to my increasingly shaky hands, I couldn’t properly press the screen, and the alarm kept ringing.
[Ba-ba-ba Ba-ba Ba-ba-ba-ba Beautiful day~]
So noisy, noisy, noisy!
In frustration, I slammed my hand down on the phone's screen.
But still, the alarm didn’t stop.
[Ba-ba-ba-ba It’s a beautiful day~ Ddingdingding~]
“Aaaaaargh!!!!!”
I screamed and threw the phone.
It bounced off the wall and landed on the floor with a thud.
The battery and the phone separated, and the screen went black as pitch.
And then,
Ddingdingding~
The alarm rang.
My heart pounded as if it would explode.
My hands trembled uncontrollably, and my breathing became so rapid that I couldn’t distinguish between inhaling and exhaling.
I rolled off the bed and crawled to the bathroom like a bug.
After several attempts to steady my trembling hands on the bathroom floor, I finally managed to get my head over the toilet and grip it with both hands.
Good morning~
“Ugh-! Waaagh... Huuugh... Keuk...”
From my mouth, nose, and eyes.
Everything except my ears leaked out various things.
The emotional residue that had been rotting inside my body came out, carrying a foul stench.
The alarm sound, which had entered through my ears, seemed to dig through my body and escape through my face.
Though there was no actual alarm sound.
Ddingdingding~
I knew the truth.
It was a song originally used as an alarm, a song that wouldn’t be in any phone in this world.
Despite seeing that no alarm was set when I checked my phone the first day I fell here.
Ba-ba-ba Ba-ba Ba-ba-ba-ba Good morning~
Every time I woke up, I heard the alarm sound.
The realization that I wasn’t normal was a fact I had desperately tried to ignore.
I let out a bitter laugh as I flushed the toilet.
Ba-ba-ba Ba-ba Ba-ba-ba-ba Good morning~
I couldn’t be okay. Ba-ba-ba-ba The truth is, I'm struggling so much I'm going crazy. It’s a beautiful day~ Suddenly waking up to find myself in the world of a novel.
Ddingdingding~ My body is burning.
Ddingdingding~ And on top of that, my body is now a girl’s.
Good morning~ If I recall the ending of the novel I read before coming here.
Ddingdingding~ Many people died. Ba-ba-ba To survive, I need to be friends with Sylvia. Ba-ba Buy macarons for her. Ba-ba-ba-ba Yoon Si-woo.
Good morning~ The Sword of Truth. Ba-ba-ba If I’m careful, I can deceive him. Ba-ba Deceive everyone. Ba-ba-ba-ba Even myself.
Good morning~ A promise made with a pinky must be kept. Ba-ba-ba Dad. Ba-ba Live strongly. Ba-ba-ba-ba I’m not the protagonist. Beautiful Changing the future? Day~ Impossible. Ba Scared. Ba Unknown dangers. Ba I might die. Ba I want to live. This school. Tsu Friends. Uh Memories. Voo Mom. Tee I want to see you. Full Can I go back? Day I don’t know. I~ I need to live. Dding With Sylvia. Ding As a friend. Ding~ I need to be.
Ddingdingding~
I stood up.
Turning off the shower, I saw a girl with a terrible expression, soaking wet in her clothes, reflected in the bathroom mirror.
I stripped off my wet pajamas.
With a moderate amount of heat, I dried my body and hair in an instant.
Good morning~
I wrung out the water from my pajamas and hung them up, then put on the school uniform hanging on the clothes rack.
I packed my bag, inserted the battery into my phone, and put it in my pocket.
Ready for school, I looked into the mirror through the open bathroom door.
Ddingdingding~
In the mirror, a girl with a still pathetic expression, despite being neatly dressed, looked back at me.
Trying to turn my expression blank didn’t work completely.
So I decided it would be easier to craft another expression.
I spoke to the girl in the mirror in my mind.
Why so serious?
Smile.
And the girl smiled.
*
“Did something good happen?”
The class president asked me during morning cleaning.
At her somewhat random question, I tilted my head, and she continued.
“Well, it’s just that you’re smiling this morning, which is unusual.”
Smiling?
Oh, right. I was smiling.
Today was Smile Evande mode.
Thinking of how to respond to the class president's question, I heard a song.
Ba-ba-ba-ba It’s a beautiful day~ Ddingdingding~
“It’s just, the weather is nice.”
I answered.
The class president nodded at my reply and said.
“Yeah, the weather is good today.”
I glanced out the window to see that it really was a sunny day.
It truly was a beautiful day.
The birds were chirping, the flowers were blooming...
On such a day, someone like me, with fire abilities, should burn in hell...
WA! Sans! Papyrus!
If the song I’m hearing right now were Undertale's BGM instead of Good Morning, I could imagine dodging incoming attacks and have a more thrilling day.
Thinking about a game that was famous in the original world, I finished cleaning up.
Once the cleaning was done, as usual, the kids started arriving at school one by one, and a few students greeted me.
When I returned the greetings, people looking at me wore expressions as if they had seen something strange.
I wondered if something was behind me, but there was nothing.
It felt like everyone had planned a hidden camera prank on me.
More importantly, we had sparring from the first period today.
Even in the original world, having PE in the first period was one of the worst timetables. In my opinion, PE should always be in the afternoon.
It’s obvious that if you move around in the morning, you’ll definitely be sleepy after lunch.
I cast a resentful glance at Eve, who had created this terrible schedule.
Eve, still dressed in a pointed hat and robe screaming “I’m a wizard,” with a playful smile fitting her small stature, shouted with a mischievous grin.
“Today is sparring, just like last time! We’ll set up matchups so that you don’t face the same opponent as before, so think ahead about how you’ll fight depending on who you’re paired with!”
Following Eve’s call, we paired up in twos, put on protective gear, and stepped onto the sparring ground next to the gym.
Then, bam boom.
Sylvia faced an opponent with long-range abilities and crushed them with overwhelming firepower, while the class rep faced another close-combat student, pushing them into a speed battle and winning easily.
It was clear that the other students had also become much more accustomed to combat compared to their first sparring session.
Though I could tell…
Do you know that even if you’re watching an epic battle scene from The Lord of the Rings, if the BGM is Good Morning, it feels incredibly funny?
Because of the song echoing in my head, the sparring seemed like child’s play!
Gyaaa!
I silently screamed in agony that no one could understand when I heard Eve’s voice calling my name.
Yay. Who’s my opponent?
“Evande, your opponent is Si-woo! Show us a splendid match worthy of top scorers!”
I was screwed.
I inwardly mourned for myself as I put on the protective gear.
I saw Yoon Si-woo across from me, looking at me with a complicated expression.
It was awkward to face him after what happened yesterday.
Me too.
To avoid making eye contact, I lowered my gaze slightly.
At this moment, I decided not to look above his neck.
From now on, you are Dullahan Yoon Si-woo.
Thinking that, I took a fighting stance.
The most important thing in a fighting stance is the footwork.
Lightly bouncing my body, I prepared to move at any moment.
...Since the song was playing in my head, I was unconsciously stepping to its rhythm.
If it’s come to this, I’ll just go with the beat of Good Morning!
“If you’re ready… start!”
Start!
As soon as the hologram indicating the start of the match appeared, I dashed forward.
The most crucial thing in a fight is to strike first.
In fancy terms, it’s called “first strike, sure victory.”
It seemed Yoon Si-woo knew this too, as he instantly lunged toward me.
Thanks to the passive ability of the indomitable holy sword that enhanced his physical abilities, he was ridiculously fast.
He was even faster than the class rep, who specialized in speed battles.
A light flashed in Yoon Si-woo’s previously empty hand.
I narrowly avoided the sword, which had appeared out of nowhere and was swung at me horizontally at a terrifying speed, by bending my knees.
Using the momentum from straightening my bent knees, I propelled myself forward.
Flames ignited in my right hand.
Take this, you bastard.
I threw my punch.
Then I heard a strange sound, like “teeeing.”
Teeeing?
A large greatsword appeared in Yoon Si-woo’s hand at some point.
My fist was blocked by a shield he had projected in front of him.
Damn equipment hog, if you do this, what does it make the class rep…
In an instant, Yoon Si-woo, who had swapped the sword in his hand, sent a slash toward me.
Unable to avoid it, I instinctively raised my hand to block the attack.
Like an idiot, I tried to block a sword with my hand, so of course, blood splattered.
Blood flowed from my palm where the sword had dug in.
It hurts!
I screamed inwardly, but it was oddly quiet around me, so I glanced up.
Yoon Si-woo was looking at me with an indescribable expression.
I thought it was because he felt bad for injuring my hand, but his gaze was directed at my face.
Wondering if something was on my face, I wiped it with my hand.
There was nothing.
Oh my god... Si woo fcked up real bad... Poor Scarlet...
ReplyDeleteI really hope she gets close to Sylvia again as Sylvia is basically her mental stabilizer, Si-woo should just go away fr
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chapter !
Nah getting back with Sylvia does not solve the underlying issue.
DeleteShe needs to accept reality.
I just feel bad for him, man. I hope this guy's life eventually gets better in the next chapters. Tfc!
ReplyDeleteAlright either she snip it back Ethan style or it's gone forever
ReplyDeleteLooks like that asshole hurt MC real bad.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, MC is going insane, but frankly, it's 100% understable goven the situation.
Besides, MC does have a point on the fact that the reason that asshole is so strong is that he either sold or kept a truckload of artifacts and has an ego sword because he's the protagonist.
I wonder if he could be something without all that.
Personality-wise he's weak and a jerk.
The only thing i'm surprised for is how literally nobody realizes MC is not ok.
People can smile, sure, but that doesn't mean they're fine.
All it takes is a little of observation, how come nobody can see?
Especially this chapter, where it's clear something's off.
I think this is my first time reading the protagonist going insane in this kind of genre.
ReplyDeleteLol she stupid, what a genius, blocking a sword with her hand.
ReplyDeleteThis is the best chapter
ReplyDeleteHuh, “Undine” really was a Undertale reference.
ReplyDeletePretty morbid to refer to a crying child as her lmfao
Oh my god. I expect a power fantasy here. I didn't expect an MC with such a broken mentality. But being suddenly transported into another world forced to desperately survive as a weak extra with no control of her powers, this is honestly such a realistic take. I'm here for it
ReplyDeleteA joker and undertale reference?
ReplyDeleteYeah the mc is cooked, pack it up
And here I thought this day wouldn't come. MC has finally started to break down, rationality in ruins.
ReplyDeletementality*
DeleteOH MY GOD HE CUT HER HAND?!
ReplyDeleteWhoever picked MC for transmigration to save the world quest fucked up big time. This is the sort of person that should've been ruled out in the first step of screening for the simplest high stress jobs much less world saving lmao
ReplyDeleteMC is a time bomb right now
